Turkey Brine Recipe For Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving is all about the turkey for most people, but that doesn't mean you can't get creative. This first recipe is for an easy, traditional turkey to serve at your dinner, while the others in this gallery are spins on your regular Thanksgiving turkey. For this recipe, you can purchase stuffing at the store, make your own, or just eliminate it from the dish all together. How to make this Easy Roast Turkey.
You will need:
1 cup kosher salt
1/2 cup granulated sugar or brown sugar
Small handfuls of garlic cloves, thyme sprigs, whole peppercorns, bay leaves or lemon
To make the brine:
1. Combine salt, sugar, herbs and 1/2 gallon (8 cups) of water in a large pot
2. Place over medium heat
3. Sir until the sugar and salt are dissolved
4. Bring to a boil, then lower heat and simmer for 5 minutes
5. Remove from heat and let cool
6. Stir in remaining 1/2 gallon water and cool completely
To brine your bird:
1. Put the brine inside a container large enough to hold the turkey
2. Add the turkey and if needed, more water to fully submerge it
3. Turn the turkey over a few times and finally leave it breast-side down
4. Chill for 5-6 hours
